Monday, May 2nd 2016 – On Friday, HB 5450 passed the State Senate after passing the House on April 20th. The Department of Consumer Protection commends the members of the legislature who supported this thoughtful expansion of Connecticut’s medical marijuana program.
“We are pleased that the legislature approved these common sense, compassionate changes to Connecticut’s Medical Marijuana Program” said Consumer Protection Commissioner Jonathan Harris, “Not only will patients under the age of 18 with severe debilitating conditions finally get the medication they need, but more research will be conducted in the state, and patients in hospice will have better, secure access to medication to relive their pain.”
Soon, patients under the age of 18, who in many cases have tried dozens of other medications unsuccessfully, will have access to the medication they need to live their day to day lives, and will have hope to treat their debilitating conditions more successfully. This legislation will allow Connecticut to become a national leader in medical marijuana research and it makes a number of important changes that will make it easier to provide relief to patients requiring end-of-life care.
Connecticut’s Medical Marijuana Program remains the first pharmaceutical model in the country, and one of the most secure. As of this week,
Connecticut’s Medical Marijuana Program has over 10,000 registered patients.
