HARTFORD, April 29 -- On Saturday, April 26th, the Liquor Control Division and the Enfield Police Department conducted compliance checks of all open package stores and grocery stores licensed to sell beer in the town of Enfield. The compliance tests were conducted in the afternoon with the support of two volunteer youths trained and provided by the Governor’s Prevention Partnership.
Twenty-three (23) stores were tested for compliance. The Department of Consumer Protection alleges that two establishments sold alcoholic liquor to one of the undercover youth volunteers. The two stores that allegedly sold alcohol to a minor and failed the compliance check are:
- Lil Buddy Mini Mart, 284 North Maple Street, Enfield
- Good Times Package Store, 79 Pearl Street, Enfield
“As we move into the warmer months, it’s very important that all permittees take care not to sell alcohol to minors,” Consumer Protection Commissioner William M. Rubenstein said. “We take compliance very seriously and expect the same from permit holders. Reducing youth access to alcohol will help in the prevention of needless tragedies.”
The two businesses that allegedly failed may be called to appear before the Liquor Control Commission at an administrative hearing to address the charges, and could face administrative penalties.
The Commissioner thanked the Enfield Police Department and the Governor’s Prevention Partnership for their roles in the compliance operation.
