HARTFORD, October 8 -- The Department of Consumer Protection is reporting the results of liquor compliance checks it conducted in the city of New Haven this past weekend.
On Saturday, October 5th, agents from the Liquor Control Division and officers of the New Haven Police Department conducted joint compliance checks of several bars and restaurants in New Haven. They were accompanied by two volunteer minors who had been trained and provided by the Governor’s Prevention Partnership.
Nine (9) restaurants and bars selected by the New Haven Police Department were tested for compliance. Of these, two establishments failed by allegedly selling alcoholic liquor to the volunteer two minors. The two locations are identified as:
- Temple Grill, 152 Temple Street
- Delaney’s, 882 Whalley Avenue
“Compliance operations help us to identify licensed or permitted locations that are selling alcoholic beverages to minors,” Department of Consumer Protection Commissioner William M. Rubenstein said. “Our goal is to find businesses that sell to minors and bring them into compliance with state liquor laws. If the volunteer youth are asked their age before making a liquor purchase, they will hand over their actual ID, and tell their true age.”
The two establishments are charged with selling liquor to a minor and will be scheduled for an administrative hearing before the Liquor Control Commission, where each will have the opportunity to address the charges.
