Turning Back the Clock Does Not Buy Extra Hour of Liquor Service

HARTFORD, November 1 – When Connecticut residents and businesses turn the clock back to 1:00 a.m. on Sunday November 3^rd, it’s not a “do-over” for patrons and owners of cafes, bars and restaurants that sell liquor, the Department of Consumer Protection reported today. When daylight saving time ends Sunday, November 3rd at 2:00 a.m., no further sales, consumption, or presence of alcoholic liquor is permitted in Connecticut’s restaurants, clubs, and bars.

“Even though we turn the clock back to 1:00 a.m., the law does not allow liquor sales to recommence or continue,” Consumer Protection Commissioner William M. Rubenstein said.  “Once 2:00 a.m. is reached -- the first time -- on Sunday, all liquor sales and consumption must stop.”

The Department, which is the state’s liquor control authority, frequently receives inquiries from liquor retailers, police officers, and the general public about this matter.
