On Saturday, May 21, the Department of Consumer Protection’s Division of Liquor Control and the Glastonbury Police Department partnered with a youth volunteer trained and provided by the Governor’s Prevention Partnership to conduct a compliance operation in town.
Beginning at 1:00 p.m. Saturday afternoon, all thirteen (13) package stores and grocery stores that sell beer in Glastonbury were tested for compliance. Twelve passed and one store failed the compliance check.
The Department of Consumer Protection alleges that Addison Fine Wine and Spirits of 800 Hebron Avenue, Glastonbury sold alcoholic liquor to the undercover youth volunteer. If the allegation is found to be true, Addison Fine Wine and Spirits may be called to appear before the Liquor Control Commission at an administrative hearing to address the charges, and could face administrative penalties.
“Glastonbury scored very well on this series of compliance checks, and we commend the permittees and local police on their continued diligence,” Consumer Protection Commissioner William M. Rubenstein said today. “It’s important that all permittees take extra care not to sell alcohol to minors. Reducing youth access to alcohol can help to prevent needless tragedies.”
The Commissioner thanked the Glastonbury Police Department for its participation in the compliance operation.
