CHRO Remembers James Williams
(HARTFORD, CT) – The Commission on Human Rights and Opportunities (CHRO) joins the Martin Luther King Jr. Holiday Commission and they together mourn the passing of James Williams, who for many years was a member, and most recently Chair, of the Connecticut Martin Luther King, Jr. Holiday Commission. Jim passed away on July 20.
Jim’s life was marked by a dedication for service, to his country as well as his community. He served in the United States Army, both abroad and domestically. He volunteered his time with many local organizations, including the Greater Hartford NAACP, the Hartford Commission on Homelessness, and the Connecticut Chapter of the Learning Disabilities Association of America. Still more organizations count Jim among their founders, including the Hartford African American Alliance and the Hartford African American Day Parade Committee.
The CHRO serves as the Secretariat to the Martin Luther King, Kr. Holiday Commission. Through this work, many of the CHRO’s Commissioners and staff were fortunate enough to witness Jim’s steadfast commitment to commemorating the memory of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and to continuing the work he so profoundly advanced during his life. Jim will be missed by all who knew him. The CHRO sends its condolences to Jim’s family and friends during this difficult time.
