Standing up for civil rights is more important now than ever. Countless organizations and people across the nation are coming together to speak up for their rights and show that we can all unite behind the idea that no one should be discriminated against. Join us for events across the state where we'll cover what the CHRO does, how we're standing up for civil rights in Connecticut, and what we have planned to unite around civil rights.

We'll be covering how the CHRO:
  • Eliminates discrimination through enforcement of Connecticut's anti-discrimination laws in housing, employment, credit transactions, and in places of public accommodations.
  • Monitors compliance with laws designed to expand opportunities for small and minority owned businesses working on public works contracts.
  • Analyzes affirmative action plans that remove barriers in state hiring to ensure state government is of the people and for the people.
  • Conducts trainings, hosts outreach events, and runs education programs aimed at preventing discrimination before it starts.

We will also be covering the roll out of the state's Disparity Study. This study examined which firms were awarded state contracts and which were not to see if there were barriers preventing certain groups from having a fair chance at bidding on state-funded contracts. Find out where disparities were found and what we can do to eliminate them.

Finally, we'll be covering proposals for a Civil Rights Museum in Connecticut, connecting everyone to the legacy of civil rights in Connecticut. Learn more about the museum by reviewing our booklet!

Join us on March 19th at the Legislative Office Building in Hartford at 9:00 am for a free breakfast and discussion of all of the above.
