Talmages Ice Pond, Branford
talmadges_ice_pond_thumb.jpg

This 0.4-acre private pond supported abundant growth of the non-native curlyleaf pondweed (Potamogeton crispus) during our July 2005 survey. This pondweed grew everywhere except in the most shallow water at the pond’s north end and in a few locations along the east and west shores where overhanging trees created deep shade. Only two other aquatic plant species were observed. Watershield (Brasenia schreberi) grew in a single location along the southwestern shore. Duckweed (Lemna minor) was abundant at the north and south ends of the pond, where it occurred with a species of filamentous algae.

Species recorded in our 2005 survey of Talmages Ice Pond.
