Private Pond, Berlin

CAES IAPP surveyed a private pond located on a private residence in Berlin, CT during 2015. The pond was 0.14 acres, and the depth was not determined. Because of its size, no water data or transect data was collected. Water chestnut (Trapa natans) was the only invasive plant present. It covered almost the entire surface of the pond. This pond is of interest because of its lack of connectivity to other waterbodies that could be a source of water chestnut. Thus, the source could be waterfowl or other means that may be playing a role in the plants spread throughout Connecticut.
