Nichols Pond is a small water body measuring 12.7 acres. There are homes all around the lake, but most of them have shoreline buffer zones. The Nichols Pond Association controls all access to the two boat launches, and prohibits motorized boats. Nuisance floating-leaf vegetation plants were treated with glyphosate in 2004, and the submerged species were treated in 2001.
The most widespread species observed in our June 2005 survey was white water lily (Nymphaea odorata), located mainly in the north and south sides of the pond. Humped bladderwort (Utricularia gibba) and yellow water lily (Nuphar variegata) also were abundant, occurring in patches on all sides of the pond. Watershield (Brasenia schreberi) was found on the north, south, and west sides, while a small amount of common duckweed (Lemna minor) was found on the north, west, and east sides. Both snailseed pondweed (Potamogeton bicupulatus) and low watermilfoil (Myriophyllum humile) occurred along the north and west shores. Great water starwort (Callitriche heterophylla) and common bladderwort (Utricularia macrorhiza) were found only on the west side of the pond.
