Upper Mills Pond is a 4-acre waterbody located in the Collinsville section of Canton. It is bordered by recreational fields to the east and a school to the west. The area to the north and south of the pond is largely wooded; a stream running from Upper Mills Pond supplies Lower Mills Pond.

Upper Mills Pond was shallow (1 to 3 feet deep) and supported an abundant community of aquatic plants at the time of our July 2005 survey. White water lily (Nymphaea odorata) covered nearly the entire surface of the pond, and small pondweed (Potamogeton pusillus) covered the bottom. Common duckweed (Lemna minor) and great duckweed (Spirodela polyrhiza) also were found throughout the whole pond. Coontail (Ceratophyllum demersum) was abundant in a white water lily-free area on the northwest side of the lake. Coontail also was found in a large patch in the middle of the lake. Western waterweed (Elodea nuttallii), marsh primrose-willow (Ludwigia palustris), humped bladderwort (Utricularia gibba), and watershield (Brasenia schreberi) were observed in scattered patches throughout the northern half of the lake. A small amount of flat-stemmed pondweed (Potamogeton zosteriformis) was found near the shore on the northwest side of the lake.
