Horseshoe Pond, Wilton
Horseshoe Pond is a 5.5-acre lake located in Wilton, CT. Roads outline most of the lake with only a few houses actually bordering the lake. A small, town park is located in southeast corner. There is no public boat access to this pond.
The CAES IAPP vegetative survey found the presence of 11 aquatic macrophytes. One species, minor naiad (Najas minor), was invasive. This plant was found in two small patches located in the southwest corner of the lake and along the middle of the eastern shore. White water lily (Nymphaea odorata) was the most dominant plant in the pond. It covered the majority of the surface of the pond except for a portion along the southern shore and north center where the water level was deeper. Frequently, spineless hornwort (Ceratophyllum echinatum) was found growing with white water lily. Small pondweed (Potamogeton pusillus) was found growing more dominantly along the southern half of the pond than the northern portion.
