Filley Pond is a 1.2-acre waterbody in Filley Park, Bloomfield, CT. The pond has a maximum depth of one meter and a mucky bottom which favors aquatic plant growth. The 2015 CAES IAPP aquatic plant survey found invasive water chestnut (Trapa natans) to be the dominant species in the pond with dense growth around the shoreline and in the southern portion. Wash Brook flows through the pond which could have been the means of introduction and spread of the water chestnut. The Town of Bloomfield is planning to treat the water chestnut in 2016 with herbicide and has obtained CTDEEP grant funding to support the endeavor. Free floating common duckweed (Lemna minor) was intermixed with the water chestnut. Native species western waterweed (Elodea nuttallii) and small pondweed (Potamogeton pusillus) were also found frequently throughout the pond.
