Farm Brook Reservoir, Hamden
Farm Brook Reservoir is a 15-acre manmade lake located in Hamden, CT. It is a public reservoir with houses along the eastern shore and a park and an impoundment on the southern shore. There is a small buffer zone on the western portion of the reservoir between a farm and the reservoir. The buffer zone gradually becomes larger along the north shore becoming a heavily wooded area.
The CAES IAPP 2012 survey found eight species in Farm Brook Reservoir; none were invasive. The most dominant plant was western waterweed (Elodea nuttallii) and was found in a large patch in the center of the lake and along the southern shore. Two shoreline species, common reed (Phragmites australis) and cattail(Typha species) were found growing around much of the southern and eastern shores. Common reed is an invasive species; however, it is classified as a wetland plant so it is not marked as an invasive aquatic plant in our survey. Other shoreline species found include water plantain (Alisma species), water starwort (Callitriche species), small waterwort (Elatine minima), and spikerush (Eleocharis species).
