Dunlop Pond, Darien

Dunlop Pond (unnamed lake with dam #3036) occurs in a protected area of forested open space; however, I-95 runs along its western edge, and railroad tracks run just to its south.

Submerged and floating-leaved aquatic plants occur only in a narrow band around the perimeter of Dunlop Pond. During our September 2005 survey, western waterweed (Elodea nuttallii) was observed primarily in shallow water around the northern tip of the pond and along the southern shore. The floating-leaved white water lily (Nymphaea odorata) was most abundant along the eastern side of the pond. Common duckweed (Lemna minor) and watermeal (Wolffia species) were abundant along the southern shore and the pond’s western end. Eelgrass (Vallisneria Americana ) was found in one area, and Sago pondweed (Stuckenia pectinata) was observed in several patches in the western end and along the southern shore of the pond.
