Cooper’s Pond is a 2.3-acre waterbody located in Stamford, CT. The pond is only about 1 m deep and aquatic vegetation reaches the surface throughout. Our CAES IAPP 2016 aquatic plant survey found ten native species and two invasive species. The invasive curlyleaf pondweed (Potamogeton crispus) was found scattered throughout the pond in low abundances. Invasive minor naiad (Najas minor) was found in very small quantity. Sago pondweed (Stuckenia pectinata) covered much of the pond and made rowing our survey boat difficult. Coontail (Ceratophyllum demersum), leafy pondweed (Potamogeton foliosus), small pondweed (Potamogeton pusillus), great duckweed (Spirodela polyrhiza), and watermeal (Wolffia species) were all found in most areas of the pond, in small abundances. Horned pondweed (Zannichellia palustris) was found in high density along the northwestern and southeastern shorelines. Primrose-Willow (Ludwigia species), as well as emergent species, common reed (Phragmites australis) and cattail (Typha species)were found along the southeastern shoreline, where the pond appeared to have been drawn down.
