2008 Aquatic Plant Survey Map of Beach Pond
This 372-acre pond is a natural lake that was made 10 feet deeper by the building of a concrete dam at the westernmost point. It is surrounded by forest and wetlands, some of which belong to the Pachaug State Forest
Our July, 2008 survey of Beach Pond yielded 16 aquatic plant species. Although no single plant could be named the most common, results did show snailseed pondweed (Potamogeton bicupulatus) to be the dominant plant around the shoreline while purple bladderwort (Utricularia purpurea) andlow watermilfoil (Myriophyllum humile) were common in the small narrow eastern part of the lake. In general, the lake’s bathymetry only allows plants to grow very close to the shore, as the depth drops quickly. No invasive plant species were identified in Beach Pond.
