Attorney General Tong Protects Social Services from Trump Attack
(Hartford, CT) -- Attorney General William Tong today released the following statement after winning a lawsuit stopping the federal administration’s unlawful attempt to gut essential health, education, and social service programs for low-income families:“Trump was so hellbent on punishing immigrant children and families that he lawlessly imperiled access to healthcare, education and social services for thousands upon thousands of Connecticut families. We sued, we stopped him, and we’re going to keep fighting and winning to protect Connecticut from Trump’s chaos and cruelty,” said Attorney General Tong.
In July 2025, Attorney General Tong joined 20 other attorneys general in a lawsuit challenging the federal government’s reinterpretation of a decades-old law governing access to social services. Monday, a federal court granted the coalition’s motion for summary judgment, vacating the administration’s sweeping rules that threatened programs like Head Start, Title X family planning clinics, food banks, domestic violence shelters, adult education, and community health centers.
