ATTORNEY GENERAL TONG TO CHALLENGE PUBLIC CHARGE RULE ATTACK ON IMMIGRANT FAMILIES
(Hartford, CT) – Attorney General William Tong issued a statement today signaling his intent to challenge the Trump Administration's new "public charge" rule, which would deny citizenship and permanent residency to immigrant families who receive, or are deemed likely to need, basic nutrition, healthcare, and housing benefits.
"The Trump Administration's illegal and unconstitutional new scheme is a direct attack on access to the American dream. This country was built by immigrants like my parents who worked themselves up from poverty. This rule is the latest chapter in this Administration's cruel and racist campaign to intimidate and punish immigrants of color. I am in close coordination with partner states and am prepared to take imminent legal action to block this unlawful and hurtful rule," said Attorney General William Tong.
