ATTORNEY GENERAL TONG STATEMENT ON RESIGNATION OF HOMELAND SECURITY SECRETARY
Attorney General William Tong issued the following statement regarding the resignation of Kirstjen Nielsen as Secretary of Homeland Security:
"She will be remembered as an unmitigated disaster—the architect of cruel and unconstitutional family separation and family detention policies that brought shame to our nation, inflicted lifelong trauma on thousands of children and harkened back to our darkest days of Japanese internment. Her departure would be welcome news but for the tragic and horrific failures of Customs and Border Patrol under Commissioner McAleenan who must be held accountable for the deaths of children in his custody. When our federal government cannot admit that caging children is wrong, it falls to the states to defend our civil rights and rule of law. Connecticut stands ready."
