AG TONG STATEMENT ON TRUMP'S DECISION TO ABANDON EFFORTS TO ADD CITIZENSHIP QUESTION TO 2020 CENSUS
Attorney General William Tong released the following statement after the Trump Administration announced today it would abandon its unrelenting effort to add the citizenship question to the 2020 Census.
"The Trump Administration's decision to abandon its nakedly partisan attempt to add the citizenship question to the 2020 Census is a win for democracy and the rule of law. The citizenship question has always been a discriminatory effort designed to intimidate and bully states like Connecticut that have strong urban and immigrant communities into silence," said Attorney General Tong. "An accurate census count is critical to securing Connecticut's share of federal funding for Medicare, education, and core services, so we can help the most vulnerable pockets of our communities. We must now double down on our efforts to ensure every person is counted. There is too much at stake."
