ATTORNEY GENERAL TONG DENOUNCES TITLE X DOMESTIC GAG RULE TO RESTRICT ACCESS TO REPRODUCTIVE HEALTH CARE
Attorney General Tong in Close Coordination with Other States and Considering All Legal Options to Protect Women's Health from Political Interference
(Hartford, CT) – Attorney General William Tong today released the following statement denouncing release of the final Title X domestic gag rule by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services imposing new unlawful restrictions on access to women's healthcare.
"Women have a right to safe, affordable reproductive health care free from political interference. This action seeks to push a politically-motivated, anti-choice agenda on millions of individuals who rely on the Title X program for access to birth control and safe reproductive health care. Today's action is a violation of law and a direct threat to over 40,000 individuals in Connecticut who rely on Title X clinics for safe, affordable health care. The Office of the Attorney General is working in close coordination with other states nationwide and will take swift legal action to protect women's health," said Attorney General Tong.

Title X clinics in Connecticut served more than 43,000 individuals at 17 different sites in 2017. About 85 percent of all those served had incomes below 250 percent of the federal poverty level.
