Statement from Attorney General Jepsen on
United Healthcare’s Continued Physician Terminations
Attorney General George Jepsen today issued the following statement on reports that United Healthcare intends to terminate doctors from its Medicare Advantage Plan network who are not members of the Fairfield or Hartford County Medical Associations:
“Last week, I urged United Healthcare to abide by the U.S. District Court’s decision and its clear contractual obligations to all physicians that would be affected by these terminations. I am extremely disappointed to learn that United intends to proceed with termination of those physicians who are not members of the two plaintiff medical associations, notwithstanding the fact that a federal court has held such terminations constitute contractual breaches that will cause irreparable harm to physicians, Connecticut Medicare patients and prospective enrollees.
“This move is further evidence of United’s unwillingness to act reasonably and in the best interest of its beneficiaries. It will only add to the confusion that United has already caused for thousands of patients, their families and their caregivers.”
