William Handleman MD

In September 2009, the Connecticut State Medical Society’s House of Delegates elected William A. Handelman, MD, of Morris to serve as president of the state’s largest physician association. Dr. Handelman is a nephrologist (a specialist in kidney disease) who practices in Torrington and has been a CSMS member since 1981. CSMS (www.csms.org) is one of the nation’s oldest medical societies; founded in 1792, it has more than 7,000 members statewide.

Dr. Handelman is a graduate of Columbia College and Downstate Medical Center (Brooklyn, N.Y.), He completed his internship and residency at the Bronx Municipal Hospital Center - Albert Einstein College of Medicine. Subsequently, he completed a fellowship at University of Colorado Medical Center, where he was an Assistant Professor of Medicine. Today, he is an Assistant Clinical Professor of Medicine at the University of Connecticut Health Center, as well as the Associate Director of the Dialysis Unit at Charlotte Hungerford Hospital. Dr. Handelman serves on the editorial board of the journal Connecticut Medicine, and is a member of the American Medical Association, the Renal Physicians Association, and the International Society of Nephrology in addition to other medical organizations. Dr. Handelman also serves on several medical boards.
