Educator Involvement

Overview

The Student Assessment Office in the CSDE Performance Office relies on Connecticut Educators to support assessment development for the summative assessments that are administered to students in Connecticut.  These assessments include the the Smarter Balanced Assessment, the Connecticut SAT School Day, the Connecticut Alternate Science Assessment (CTAS), the Connecticut Alternate Assessment (CTAA),  and the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) Assessment.  Below are examples of past activities as well as future opportunities related to assessment development.  More future opportunities will be announced in the Student Assessment News (SAN).    

Smarter Balanced Activities

Educators in Grades 3-8 may apply annually to participate in assessment development activities including item authoring for ELA and mathematics; passage review for content, fairness, and accessibility; item review for content, fairness, and accessibility; range finding; data review opportunities and digital library development.  All opportunities will be announced in the Student Assessment Newsletter and on the Connecticut Comprehensive Assessment Program Portal.

NGSS and CTAS Activities

Committees of Connecticut educators were involved in development of test items, standard setting and content alignment for the NGSS and CTAS over the last few years.  Any future opportunities will be announced in the Student Assessment Newsletter and on the Connecticut Comprehensive Assessment Program Portal.

Connecticut SAT Activities

Committees of Connecticut teachers were involved in standard setting and content alignment for the Connecticut SAT School Day.  All future opportunities will be announced in the Student Assessment Newsletter and on the Connecticut Comprehensive Assessment Program Portal.

AP Involvement

AP teachers may apply to be an AP reader.  Information is available on the College Board’s web site.
