CWE/DO is offered in Connecticut comprehensive high schools and combines classroom instruction and work-based learning. The related instruction may be offered in a traditional classroom setting, a blended learning environment, or online and is based on the Connecticut CWE Frameworks. The related instruction component prepares students for postsecondary education and/or employment using performance standards and competencies that focus on the acquisition of transferable skills such as communication, critical thinking, collaboration, and creativity. The Work-based learning component provides students with the opportunity to link these skills with requisite skills demanded in 21st century careers. CWE/DO students may be placed in paid employment across all Career Pathways after mandatory safety training and the establishment of a Universal Structured Work-based Learning Plan designed in partnership with student, workplace mentor, and teacher. Additionally, students may be placed in CWE throughout the other approved CTE Program Areas in Connecticut which are Agriculture Education, Business and Finance Technology Education, Family and Consumer Sciences, Marketing Education, Medical Careers, and Technology Education.
