Yes, It’s Tax Season Again:  Special Information
-About the Healthcare Tax Form--IRS Form 1095-B
Enrollees in the HUSKY Health program will soon be receiving a tax form in the mail. This is the ‘IRS Form 1095-B,’ required by federal law to help you prepare your federal tax return for 2018.

The Department of Social Services (DSS), administering agency for the HUSKY Health program, has sent IRS Form 1095-B to households who were enrolled in Medicaid and the Children’s Health Insurance Program for any portion of 2018.
  • Your IRS Form 1095-B was mailed by DSS by January 31, 2019.

  • IRS Form 1095-B is an official tax document which serves as proof of enrollment in ‘minimal essential health coverage.’  All HUSKY Health programs qualify for this type of coverage.

  • Please use the enrollment information provided on IRS Form 1095-B to complete your federal tax return for 2018.  This is important because the Affordable Care Act’s ‘individual responsibility mandate’ requires most Americans and qualified non-citizens to obtain and maintain minimum essential health coverage each month in 2018 or obtain an exemption – otherwise, a tax penalty may be charged.  Please note: Congress has eliminated the penalty for the individual responsibility mandate beginning in 2019, but IRS Form 1095-B forms will still be needed to complete federal tax returns for 2018.
