Deputy Commissioner Jody Terranova, DO, MPA

 

Deputy Commissioner Dr. Jody Terranova joined the Connecticut Department of Public Health in January 2023 and oversees Community, Family Health, and Prevention, Health Statistics and Surveillance, Infectious Diseases and the Public Health Laboratory.  Prior to joining DPH she was a practicing pediatrician at the University of Connecticut Health Center for many years, providing patient care and educating medical students and resident physicians as the medical director of the Burgdorf Pediatric Clinic in Hartford.  During her tenure at UConn she held various leadership positions as an Assistant Professor of Pediatrics and was the President and Immunization Representative for the CT Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics.  She has also been a public servant for many years, elected as Deputy Mayor to the Windsor Town Council.

She brings to DPH experience in organizational leadership, policy writing and analysis, and health care delivery, among other skillsets. She received her master’s degree in public administration from the University of Connecticut School of Public Policy.  Additionally, she completed her pediatric residency at the UConn School of Medicine where she also served as chief resident. Deputy Commissioner Terranova earned her Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree from the Arizona College of Osteopathic Medicine and received her Bachelor of Science in biochemistry from Worcester Polytechnic Institute.
