DMHAS recognizes the importance of addressing underage drinking in communities where young people live. In collaboration with the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), resources are available to communities to implement strategies to reduce underage alcohol use and its harmful effects.
Cannabis Awareness and Education Program
In June of 2021, through the state legislature, CT became the 19th state to legalize cannabis for adults 21 and over through the Responsible and Equitable Regulation of Adult-Use Cannabis (RERACA). This law sets out a framework that will comprehensively regulate cannabis in Connecticut in a manner that protects public health and safety while promoting social equity and economic development.

$5.5 Million in New Federal Funding Available to Connecticut to Combat Opioid Crisis
The Connecticut Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services (DMHAS) today announced its intent to apply for $5.5 million from the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) to combat the prescription opioid and heroin crisis.
