The Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services (DMHAS) hosted the 2nd annual International Recovery Council and Citizenship Conference in New Haven, CT on May 13 and 14, 2015. This conference, titled Achieving Equity and Justice in Recovery, was the twin to a matching conference held a week earlier in Montreal, Canada.
Invited attendees at the conference participated in sessions focusing on healing after trauma, strategies that promote recovery, the evolution of mental health services and creating system change. Presenters included international experts from Canada, England, Ghana, Brazil and Scotland as well as Connecticut.
The conference sponsor, the International Recovery and Citizenship Council (IRCC), is a global collaborative of policy makers, healthcare providers, persons with lived experience, advocates, researchers and other stakeholders. The IRCC is composed of local and international members including DMHAS, the Institut Universitaire en Santé Mentale de Montréal, the Institut Philippe Pinel de Montréal, the International Citizen Project, the Université de Montréal and the Yale Program on Recovery and Community Health.
