Division of Safety Services
Safety Education and Training Unit
The mission of the Division of Safety Services, Safety Education and Training Unit (DSS/SETU), is to provide safety education and training courses to DMHAS employees and community partners. Courses are designed to reduce the rate and severity of consumer and employee injuries in adult behavioral health and forensic healthcare settings. SETU instructors pride themselves in using best practice standards in order to provide DMHAS employees the knowledge and skills needed to create and maintain safe, culturally-responsive, trauma-informed and recovery-oriented environments of care.
DSS/SETU envisions setting the standard for excellence in the areas of developing and providing safety education courses to ensure that all individuals working in, or receiving services in, adult behavioral health and forensic healthcare settings are safe.
Communication, Creativity, Integrity, Inclusion, Professional Development, Teamwork
The DSS/SETU accomplishes its mission with a staff of administrative and instructional professionals who have expertise in providing safety education and training courses to those working with adults in behavioral health and forensic healthcare settings. Courses are designed using nationally recognized best practice standards, as described in related clinical, medical, occupational safety, and law enforcement literature. Course content and materials meet all standards and regulations set forth by State and Federal governing and accrediting bodies, including The Joint Commission and Centers for Medicaid/Medicare Services, and abide by all other grant and contractual obligations.
The DSS/SETU also has the pleasure of conducting training for State and Municipal recruits, certified officers, and emergency first responders at the Connecticut Police Academy in Meriden.
