STATE POLICE MAKE ARRESTS IN POMFRET METAL THEFTS

On October 5, 2010, the Connecticut State Police at Troop D in Danielson received a complaint from property managers of the former Steak-Ums Facility, 153 Searles Road, Pomfret, that pipe and wiring had been stripped and stolen from the buildings at the site. A State Trooper responded to the scene and began an investigation into the theft of thousands of dollars worth of copper piping, wiring and metal stripped from the buildings with an estimated damage value of over $250,000.00. The crimes were believed to have taken place over several months throughout the summer of 2010.

An extensive investigation was conducted by Troopers from Troop D, members of the Quality of Life Task Force and Detectives assigned to the Eastern District Major Crime Squad.  Suspects were identified as going into the buildings in groups at different times of the day and night on several different dates to remove metal piping and wire from the buildings. This property was sold to scrapyards for cash.

Troopers and detectives interviewed several subjects from the Danielson area regarding this crime spree. As a result of the investigation, arrest warrants were issued by the Judicial District of Windham Superior Court for several individuals involved in these crimes.

On Wednesday, November 16, 2011, Troopers from Troop D, Resident Troopers from the towns of Killingly and Brooklyn, Troopers from the Quality of Life Task Force, and Detectives assigned to the Eastern District Major Crime Squad fanned out in a dragnet into the towns of Killingly, Brooklyn, and Thompson to serve the outstanding arrest warrants. As a result, several individuals were taken into custody and transported to Troop D for processing. Judicial Marshals from the Windham Superior Court assisted State Police with the processing and transportation of the prisoners to court for arraignment.
