ARREST MADE IN WOODSTOCK ROBBERY

On August 1, 2006, State Police Detectives from the Eastern District Major Crime Squad and State Troopers from Troop D in Danielson developed information that identified the suspect involved in the July 31st robbery of the Woodstock branch office of WestBank, located on Route 171 in Woodstock.

Based on witness statements, Detectives drafted an arrest warrant and arrested the accused on August 1 at 10 a.m. at the Holiday Inn Express in Hartford.  The accused is identified as David Torrey, DOB 12-25-1960.  Torrey was transported to Troop D and processed on the charges of third degree robbery and third degree larceny.  He was held on $250,000 cash bond pending his appearance in Danielson Superior Court on August 2.

State Police reported that the arrest of the suspect came after a citizen saw a photo of the suspect displayed on the State Police website.  The photograph and accompanying news release proved instrumental in identifying the suspect and solving this crime.

State Police began investigating the robbery following a 911 call at 2:03 p.m. on Monday, July 31st.  Witnesses reported that a lone male entered the bank and demanded money, but did not display a weapon. An undetermined amount of money was given to the suspect.
