Critical Infrastructure

Critical Infrastructure is the body of systems, networks and assets that are so essential that their continued operation is required to ensure the security of the state, nation, its economy, and the public's health and/or safety.

The Connecticut Critical Infrastructure Protection Unit (CIPU) works to assess and protect Connecticut’s public and private critical infrastructure assets and key resources, both physical and cyber-based, that are essential to maintaining the minimal operational capabilities of government and are necessary to the well-being of the economy.

The CIPU Unit identifies these key assets, assesses their vulnerabilities, participates in multi-agency deterrence and protection activities, and develops mitigation strategies designed to improve security at those sites. The CIPU Unit also works with the Office of Emergency Management and the State Emergency Operations Center during emergencies to assist in preparedness, response, protection, and recovery issues related to the state’s critical infrastructure.

The Critical Infrastructure Protection Unit (CIPU) is tasked with the assessment and protection of Connecticut’s public and private critical infrastructure assets and key resources. The Critical Infrastructure Protection Unit offers the following services and capabilities:

  • School Security walk-throughs
  • Staff, Student, and Parent presentations/awareness training
  • Situational Awareness Training
  • Terrorism Awareness Training
  • Critical Infrastructure Database/Repository Sector Specific Awareness Bulletins
