The DEEP has a number of programs that address the handling, storage, treatment and disposal of all forms of waste including: solid waste, hazardous waste, biomedical waste, and wastewater. Beyond regulating the traditional activities associated with these and other wastes, the Department engages in a number of compliance assistance and pollution prevention initiatives to further protect the resources of the state as well as public safety. In addition to working with large generators or handlers of waste, the Department gears a number of its programs toward individuals, offering guidance and assistance to minimize waste and foster recycling and reuse efforts.
