Resiliency & Hazard Mitigation Planning

Overview

The SHPO has surveyed more than 4,000 properties in the four coastal counties that could be impacted by rising sea levels. The office maintains more than 45,000 digitized historic resource inventory forms, as well as verified and geocoded locations associated with the inventories. The SHPO also prepared documents offering technical assistance on resiliency planning to towns in the coastal counties through the Hurricane Sandy Disaster Relief Assistance Grant Program.

Additional resources to assist property owners impacted by severe weather events include the National Park Service's recently published Guidelines on Flood Adaptation for Historic Buildings, the Maryland Historical Trust's Flood Mitigation Guide, FEMA's Floodplain Management Bulletin: Historic Structures, and English Heritage's Flooding and Historic Buildings
