Onboard Orientation for New Employees
All newly hired employees of the Department of Developmental Services (DDS) are required to attend the department’s Onboard Orientation following their date of hire. Training requirements vary based on the employee’s qualifications, employment and training history and the position and/or function to which the employee is assigned. The employee will be provided with information regarding their specific training requirements and will be expected to attend all mandated classroom and online training as directed by their Human Resources Office and immediate supervisor.
The DDS Onboard Orientation consists of a combination of learning styles including on-line, classroom and mentoring. This holistic training offers new employees opportunities to learn in individual and group settings and ensures a more effective, flexible training program.
E-learning courses are offered through the College of Direct Support (CDS), a nationally recognized curriculum which gives a general overview of many topics that are central to working in the field of developmental disabilities. Lessons are assigned and completed as a prerequisite to the classroom days. Our instructors reinforce the on-line learning by informing new employees of DDS specific policies and practices. On-site mentoring offers new employees the opportunity to meet their supervisor and peers, observe and ask questions while gradually transitioning into their full responsibilities of working with or in support of DDS consumers.
