Departments of Consumer Protection, Public Health, and Mental Health and Addiction Services Announce Connecticut Prescription Monitoring and Reporting System (CPMRS) Integration with NarxCare
Tuesday, October 29th 2019 – The Department of Consumer Protection (DCP)’s Drug Control Division, with the Departments of Public Health (DPH), and Mental Health and Addiction Services (DMHAS) announced that Appriss Health’s NarxCare has been implemented statewide as of October 1st, 2019. NarxCare is a platform that aggregates and analyzes prescription information from providers and pharmacies, and presents complex risk scores and other helpful information to support practitioners. NarxCare also provides tools and resources that can connect patients to treatment if necessary.
“I am pleased that, working with our partners in the public and private sectors, we are able to provide more tools for practitioners who are striving to make sure that patients in our state have the best care possible,” said Consumer Protection Commissioner Michelle H. Seagull, “While we know there is no one solution to the opioid crisis, NarxCare combined with other features, such as alerts in the Connecticut Prescription Monitoring and Reporting System, can move us in the right direction. I want to thank everyone who has supported this work, and I am hopeful more will continue in the future.”

The Connecticut Prescription Monitoring and Reporting System is an important tool to assist in delivering quality health care,” said Department of Public Health (DPH) Commissioner Renée Coleman-Mitchell. “DPH is pleased to support ongoing enhancements, such as NarxCare, to make sure it’s even easier for prescribers to use prescription drug data to make informed decisions in caring for their patients.”
“We know that for many with opioid use disorder, their addiction began with the misuse of prescription opioid medications,” stated DMHAS Commissioner Miriam Delphin-Rittmon. “By making tools available for prescribers to help inform their decisions on prescribing medications, we can help address addiction before it begins and identify individuals who may have a substance use disorder and connect them to treatment.”
NarxCare is available at no cost to all eligible Connecticut healthcare prescribers and pharmacists accessing the CPMRS. DCP is funding the first year of NarxCare through the Comprehensive Opioid Abuse Site-based Program (COAP) grants from the Bureau of Justice Assistance, Office of Justice Programs, U.S. Department of Justice. The second and third year of NarxCare will be funded by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Overdose Data to Action grant that was recently awarded to DPH.
