Kraft Foods Recalls Three Varieties of Velveeta Shells & Cheese Microwaveable Cups

Department of Consumer Protection Oversees Compliance on Removal from Stores

HARTFORD, October 6 –  The Department of Consumer Protection will oversee compliance by Connecticut food retailers on the removal of three varieties of Kraft Velveeta Shells & Cheese Single Serve Microwaveable Cups with certain “best when used by” dates, following the company’s voluntary recall, Consumer Protection Commissioner William M. Rubenstein said today. Kraft Foods Global, Inc. is voluntarily recalling three varieties of Velveeta Shells & Cheese Single Serve Microwaveable Cups with some “best when used by” dates as a precaution due to the possible presence of small, thin wire bristle pieces.  The following products are being recalled:

Department food inspectors will spot check food stores in upcoming days to ensure that all recalled items have been removed from store shelves.

Kraft Foods is issuing this voluntary recall out of an abundance of caution. Approximately 137,000 cases of the affected products were shipped to customers across the United States.

Consumers may have the items at home, and are encouraged to find the “best when used by” date on the bottom of the package. Only the “Best When Used By Dates” listed above are being recalled; no other “best when used by” dates of Velveeta Shells & Cheese Single Serve Microwaveable Cups or any other Kraft Foods products are part of the recall.


Consumers who have recalled products should not eat them, but return them to the store of purchase for an exchange or full refund. Consumers also can contact Kraft Foods Consumer Relations Monday through Friday at 1-800-308-1841.
