Girl's Clothing Recalled by My Michelle Due to Risk of Lead Exposure

Shirts, dresses may have been sold at Kohl's, JC Penney, Burlington Coat Factory

HARTFORD, April 13 – The Department of Consumer Protection is alerting consumers to a voluntary recall of girl’s tops due to potential lead hazard. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, in cooperation with My Michelle, of New York, NY announced a voluntary recall of about 90.000 of the tops, because jewelry and decorative trim attached to the garments contain high levels of lead. Lead is toxic if ingested by young children and can cause adverse health effects.

The girl's tops and dresses were sold in sizes Small to Extra Large and sizes 7 to 16, and were carried by Burlington Coat Factory, J.C. Penney, Kohl's, Dillard's, K & G Fashion Superstore and other retail stores nationwide from January 2011 through March 2011 for about $38. All styles of the tops and dresses have a black tag on the collar with pink print that reads "mymichelle."

Consumers should immediately take the recalled garments away from children and contact My Michelle for information on receiving a full refund. It is illegal to resell or attempt to resell a recalled consumer product.
