CHRO and HUD, Working together

The Connecticut Commission on Human Rights and Opportunities (CHRO) is the chief civil rights enforcement agency for the state of Connecticut. It has authority to enforce State and Federal laws prohibiting discrimination in housing, employment, public accommodations and credit transactions.

The Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) is a Federal agency that enforces the Federal Fair Housing Act. To learn more about HUD, visit their website @ https://www.hud.gov/program_offices/fair_housing_equal_opp

CHRO works together with HUD to combat housing discrimination in Connecticut. In order to avoid duplication of effort, CHRO and HUD have worked out an agreement for the efficient investigation and prosecution of housing complaints. In most instances, whether you file a complaint with CHRO or with HUD regarding alleged discrimination occurring in Connecticut, the case will be investigated by CHRO.
