Attorney General Tong Statement on Passage of S.B. 363 Out of the Judiciary Committee

(Hartford, CT) — Attorney General William Tong issued the following statement regarding the passage of S.B. 363: An Act Concerning the Duties of the Office of the Attorney General out of the Judiciary Committee today.

“Today’s bipartisan vote in the Judiciary Committee is a major step forward for civil rights enforcement in our state. S.B. 363 strengthens the authority of the Office of the Attorney General to stop large-scale systemic violations of constitutional and statutory rights, and to seek justice and healing for those whose lives and liberties are under threat,” Attorney General Tong said. “I don’t need to tell anyone why this matters today. Hate and discrimination are real, and the civil rights promised to us all are not enjoyed equally. The Office of the Attorney General has the expertise and the capacity to take on this important work, and I thank the committee for their strong support today.”
