Attorney General Tong Statement on T-Mobile/Sprint Merger

(Hartford, CT) – Attorney General William Tong issued the following statement regarding court approval of the T-Mobile/Sprint merger:

“This megamerger is a bad deal for consumers. This is just one more instance where families are going to be asked to pay more for less, where American workers will lose their jobs to fatten the paychecks of corporate executives. I continue to believe we had an obligation to file this lawsuit on behalf of consumers who will be harmed by the substantial loss of competition in this industry. We are reviewing the opinion and discussing next steps with our multistate partners,” said Attorney General Tong.

Connecticut last July joined a multi-state lawsuit to halt the proposed merger of telecom giants T-Mobile and Sprint. The complaint, led by New York Attorney General Letitia James and California Attorney General Xavier Becerra, was filed in New York federal court and alleged that the merger of two of the four largest national mobile network operators would deprive consumers of the benefits of competition and drive up prices for cellphone services.
