Attorney General George Jepsen and state Banking Commissioner Howard Pitkin today announced a new public service announcement to draw the public's attention to the services available through the Department of Banking's foreclosure assistance hotline.

"Settlements with national banks and state-sponsored assistance events have helped thousands of Connecticut residents stay in their homes," Attorney General Jepsen said. "These announcements will remind homeowners where to call for help if they need it."

"Many people across Connecticut have trouble with their mortgage every year, but foreclosure can often be prevented.  Homeowners should not be afraid or embarrassed to ask for help.  Callers to the hotline, at 1-877-472-8313, will receive advice, guidance, and valuable resources," Commissioner Pitkin said.

The 30-second audio spots were recorded and produced in English and Spanish by professional actors at no cost to the state. These spots will be made available to members of the Connecticut Broadcasters Association as a public service.

"We would like to acknowledge the volunteer services of Miguel Alverez, Jamie MacKenzie, http://www.jamiemackenzie.com, and the Connecticut Broadcasters Association for their efforts to raise public awareness about the hotline and assistance available to callers," the Attorney General and Commissioner Pitkin said.

Assistant Attorney General Joseph Chambers, Finance and Senior Policy Advisor Susan Kinsman assisted the Attorney General with this effort.
