ATTORNEY GENERAL POSTS RESOURCES

FOR DOMESTIC VIOLENCE AWARENESS

(HARTFORD) – In recognition of Domestic Violence Awareness month, Attorney General George Jepsen has added a new page to his office’s website, www.ct.gov/agto guide domestic violence victims to getting the help they may need.

“Domestic violence destroys not only individuals, but entire families. When someone is being threatened or abused, it is critical to get help quickly. Knowing who to call for help can improve the chances of a positive outcome,” Jepsen said.

The Attorney General has civil authority in Connecticut and does not handle cases of domestic violence, which is a crime. But if constituents contact the Office and its website looking for information about domestic violence, they can find it.

The most important information listed is the number to the 24-hour hotline of the Connecticut Coalition Against Domestic Violence. That toll-free number is 1-888-774-2900.

An information sheet with the same information has also been distributed to the receptionists who are the first point of contact for callers to Jepsen’s office. The website can be accessed at www.ct.gov/ag.

Attorney General Jepsen is one of the “First 100” men recognized by the Connecticut Coalition Against Domestic Violence for making a commitment to end domestic violence in Connecticut. The organization hosted a “First 100” fund-raising breakfast today in Cromwell.

As a state legislator, Jepsen was honored by Domestic Violence Services, Inc. with the Patricia C. Phillips Award for extraordinary leadership on behalf of victims of domestic violence. Jepsen co-authored the state’s first comprehensive plan to prevent violence against women.

Cindy Dubuque, director of constituent services, and Assistant Attorney General Karen Haabestad worked on this issue for the Attorney General.
