The purpose of the project is to replace Bridge No. 01015 to address the poor condition of the existing substructure. The proposed structure is a single span steel girder superstructure with curb-to-curb width of 32 feet and a span length of 65 feet. The superstructure will be supported on semi-integral reinforced concrete abutments.

The project will be constructed utilizing a full detour, closing off Glen Road and Newtown Turnpike between Tudor Road and hiking trail parking access on Glen Road and on Newtown Turnpike north of the bridge. This area will be closed to pedestrian, bicycle, and vehicular traffic for the duration of construction. The proposed detour is approximately 14 miles long using state routes.

There are right-of-way impacts associated with the proposed improvements, including permanent takes of Aquarion Water Company property around the proposed abutments and wingwalls, and temporary construction easements to Aquarion Water Company property to demolish the existing structure and build the proposed structure.

Construction is anticipated to begin October 2026 based on the availability of funding, acquisition of rights of way, and approval of permit(s).  The estimated construction cost for this project is approximately $7,200,000. This project is anticipated to be undertaken with 80% federal funds and 20% state funds.
