LT. GOVERNOR BYSIEWICZ STATEMENT ON SUPREME COURT DECISION STRIKING DOWN RACE-CONSCIOUS ADMISSIONS

6/29/2023

(HARTFORD, CT) - Lieutenant Governor Susan Bysiewicz released the following statement regarding the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision to strike down race-conscious admissions at colleges and universities around the nation.

“Yet again the Supreme Court has chosen dismantle decades of settled law, legislating from behind the bench and effectively derailing years of progress. Racism and discrimination remain rampant in our country, and it is incumbent on us all to promote diversity, inclusion – and equitable access to opportunity.

Our students benefit from learning among those who come from different backgrounds and experiences, and here in Connecticut we will continue to support efforts thathelp to promote inclusion and equity at our colleges and universities. Our administration, with our legislative and agency partners, remain committed to leading the way in addressing systemic racism and fighting discrimination at all levels.”
