(HARTFORD, CT) - Lieutenant Governor Susan Bysiewicz released the following statement after it was announced the U.S. Supreme Court will delay ruling on mifepristone restrictions, allowing the abortion pill to remain on the market without restrictions until 11:59 p.m. Friday.
“Today, we breathe a small sigh of relief as access to this safe and effective medication continues – but we know the fight is not over. We must work to ensure that women have continued access to mifepristone, a drug that has been safely used by more than five million patients over the last 20 years. Decisions about our health and the right to make our own medical decisions shouldn’t rest on the opinion of a singular anti-choice judge. The Supreme Court must decide to permanently uphold the FDA’s independent, expert authority – to rule otherwise sets a terrible and dangerous precedent that could call into question every other safe and commonly used medication.”
