(HARTFORD, CT) - Lieutenant Governor Susan Bysiewicz released the following statement after a federal judge in Texas seeks to block the U.S. Food and Drug Administration’s (FDA) approval of mifepristone.
“This is an outrageous attack on women’s rights and a flagrant effort to reduce access to effective and safe abortion care. Mifepristone has been safely used by more than five million patients over the last 20 years – and one anti-choice judge’s opinion should not overturn decades of scientific research. To those across the country in anti-choice states, know that Connecticut is a safe harbor, and we welcome you.
If allowed to take effect, this ruling will be a devastating blow to the rights of our most vulnerable populations – communities of color, indigenous communities, and those in rural areas. These dangerous and all-out attacks on the right to access essential healthcare in our courts and legislatures must end. This decision must be appealed.”
