(HARTFORD, CT) – Today, Lt. Governor Susan Bysiewicz and Hartford elected officials announced a $500,000 grant-in-aid to the to the YMCA of Greater Hartford for capital improvements and upgrades at the Albany Avenue location.
This money is part the State Bonding Commission’s most recent meeting agenda, which is directed to local nonprofits, governments and state agencies seeking funding to support a variety of projects across Connecticut.
“Governor Lamont and I know that when we invest in our Connecticut communities, we create better outcomes for everyone in our state. That’s why I’m proud to be here today to highlight this funding for the Greater Hartford YMCA,” said Lt. Governor Susan Bysiewicz. “The programs and services that our state’s local YMCA’s provide are vital for our younger generation’s positive development. Children can interact with their friends and have fun, learn social-emotional skills and coping mechanisms through practice and play, all while being exposed to different and exciting opportunities.”
"We all recognize that the Y is a hub of enrichment programs for families and young people – the programs are vital to our community. Its why Governor Lamont, Lt. Governor Bysiewicz and the Hartford legislative delegation invested $500,000 in state bond funds this summer in the Greater Hartford YMCA," said Speaker of the House Matt Ritter.
The YMCA of Greater Hartford is a charitable association open to all and committed to helping children and adults develop their fullest potential in spirit, mind and body. Their commitment is reinforced by their belief in living out universal values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility.
“Summer enrichment programs are invaluable in the overall development of youth by giving them opportunities and options to learn, grow and enhance problem solving and social interaction skills which are vital for success,” State Representative Ed Vargas said. “I applaud the good work of the YMCA that has, for generations, been a corner stone in our community and has had such a positive impact on many lives. I thank all those dedicated individuals that have contributed to our youths and Lt. Governor Susan Bysiewicz for her unwavering support of young people across the state.”
“The YMCA of Greater Hartford is grateful for the $500,000 grant that has been awarded to the Wilson-Gray YMCA for major renovations and improvements – I want to personally thank Speaker Ritter, Senator McCrory, Governor Lamont and Lt. Governor Bysiewicz for making this happen,” Harold Sparrow, President/CEO of the YMCA of Greater Hartford, said today. “Believe me when I tell you these funds will make a huge difference in the lives of the young people and families we serve. Every day our staff reach a vulnerable population who depend upon the services we provide at Wilson-Gray, so thank you for helping us to meet that mission.”
